Season overview

Medieval

Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 2 (often referred to as "Fort Knights") launched on December 14, 2017, marking a pivotal moment in the game's monetization and progression history. Most notably, Epic Games abandoned the Season Shop model from Season 1 and introduced the very first Battle Pass, a system that would go on to revolutionize the entire live-service gaming industry. This season dramatically increased the game's popularity, aided by continuous gameplay updates and the game's first massive map expansion. The medieval theme was reflected heavily in the Battle Pass rewards, which featured knights, shields, and the coveted Black Knight outfit. The season ran for 69 days, concluding on February 21, 2018. During this time, Fortnite cemented itself as a worldwide cultural phenomenon, drawing millions of new players to the Battle Royale genre.

Map & POI Changes

Landmarks, locations and changes that shaped this season.

The map received its first massive overhaul in the v2.2.0 update (January 18, 2018), which completely populated the previously empty western half of the island. This update added five new major Points of Interest: the notoriously chaotic Tilted Towers, Shifty Shafts, Snobby Shores, Haunted Hills, and Junk Junction. It also introduced distinct ecological biomes like swamps and forests to visually break up the map.
