Superheroes and Movie Sets
Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 4, titled "Brace for Impact," launched on May 1, 2018, and fundamentally changed how Epic Games approached live storytelling. Delivering on the weeks of buildup from Season 3, the massive comet finally crashed into the island, completely obliterating Dusty Depot and transforming it into a giant crater known as Dusty Divot. The season featured a dual theme: a superhero narrative and a movie production, with cameras and green screens popping up across the map. Season 4 also introduced the first-ever in-game crossover event, partnering with Marvel for an Avengers: Infinity War Limited Time Mode where players could wield the Infinity Gauntlet and become Thanos. Progression was significantly enhanced with the introduction of "progressive" outfits (Carbide and Omega) that required players to reach specific seasonal levels to unlock armor pieces and custom light colors. The season culminated in the game's first true live in-game event, the Rocket Launch, where players gathered in real-time to watch The Visitor launch a rocket that cracked the sky, setting a massive precedent for future live events.

Dusty Depot was destroyed by the meteor and replaced by Dusty Divot, a massive crater containing a research facility and low-gravity Hop Rocks. Risky Reels was added to the northeast. A Villain Lair was added to the mountain near Snobby Shores, a Superhero Mansion was built near Lonely Lodge, and Moisty Mire was transformed into a movie set.

Hop Rocks were introduced as the first map-based consumable, granting temporary low-gravity effects. Shopping Carts were added as the game's first true rideable vehicle. Foraged items were also introduced, allowing players to consume Apples for health and Mushrooms for shields directly from the environment.

Battle Pass
The 100-tier Battle Pass featured superhero and graffiti-themed skins like Carbide, Teknique, Zoey, Valor, and Omega. It introduced progressive skins, requiring players to grind XP to unlock armor stages. It also introduced the concept of a ""Secret Skin"" tied to completing seven weeks of challenges (The Blockbuster), which rewarded players with The Visitor.

Live Event / Finale
The "Blast Off" Event. On June 30, 2018, a live in-game event occurred where The Visitor launched the rocket from the Villain Lair. It teleported around the map and ultimately cracked the sky, leaving a massive dimensional rift.
