Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 7 launched on December 6, 2018, bringing a massive winter overhaul to the island. An iceberg crashed into the southwestern corner of the map, introducing a sprawling new winter biome. This season fundamentally changed mobility with the introduction of the X-4 Stormwing, the game's first flying vehicle (a fighter plane), which allowed for aerial dogfighting and rapid map traversal. The storyline centered around the Ice King, who slowly emerged from the melting iceberg at Polar Peak. Midway through the season, the Ice King cast a spell covering the entire map in snow during the live Ice Storm event, bringing back PvE monsters to the core modes in the form of the Ice Legion. Season 7 was also historic for hosting Fortnite's first-ever live in-game concert with electronic artist Marshmello. Held at a custom stage in Pleasant Park, the highly interactive concert drew over 10 million concurrent players and established a brand new standard for live metaverse entertainment. As the season closed, massive earthquakes began tearing cracks across the island, setting the stage for Season 8.
