The Future Is Yours

Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 9 launched on May 9, 2019, leaping forward in time to introduce a bright, utopian, and futuristic aesthetic. Following the devastating volcanic eruption at the end of Season 8, the island's inhabitants used advanced technology to rebuild the destroyed locations. The season was heavily defined by its massive mobility upgrades, most notably the Slipstream wind tunnels that looped around the map and through the new futuristic cities. Epic Games also introduced Fortbytes, a season-long scavenger hunt requiring players to collect 100 hidden computer chips by solving daily riddles or reaching Battle Pass milestones to uncover a hidden image. The overarching narrative focused on a massive monster trapped inside the ice of Polar Peak, which eventually broke free and began circling the island in the ocean. In response, residents constructed a colossal mechanical robot inside the volcano's caldera. This culminated in "The Final Showdown," an epic, kaiju-style live event where the Mecha Team Leader battled the Devourer monster across the map, ending with the monster's defeat and leaving a giant skeleton on the island.
