Bounty Hunters

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5, titled "Zero Point," launched on December 2, 2020. Following the defeat of Galactus in the previous season, the Zero Point was left exposed and heavily destabilized at the center of the island. To prevent anyone from escaping the Loop, Agent Jones was deployed by the Imagined Order (IO) to recruit the greatest bounty hunters from across various realities. This season completely revolutionized the core gameplay loop by introducing the Gold Bar economy and interactive NPCs. For the first time, players could accept Bounties to track down specific opponents, earn a persistent currency that carried across matches, and spend it at characters scattered around the map to purchase items, upgrade weapons, or hire bodyguards. Season 5 is perhaps most famous for transforming Fortnite into a massive, unprecedented metaverse. Throughout the season, portals opened across the island, bringing in a relentless wave of legendary pop-culture icons from gaming and film, cementing Fortnite's status as a central hub for all of entertainment.

The center of the map became a massive, crystalline desert surrounding the exposed Zero Point. New POIs included Colossal Coliseum (a massive gladiator arena), Hunter's Haven, and Stealthy Stronghold (an enclosed jungle). Salty Springs merged with the classic Tilted Towers to become Salty Towers.

Introduced Gold Bars (a persistent currency), interactive NPCs with dialogue/quests, the Bounty system (tracking targeted players), and Sand Tunneling (allowing players to sink into the desert sand and move stealthily).

Battle Pass

The 100-tier Battle Pass featured The Mandalorian (Tier 1) and Grogu (Back Bling), alongside original hunters like Mancake (a flapjack cowboy), Lexa (the game's first cel-shaded anime skin), Kondor, Mave, Reese, and Menace (Tier 100). The secret skin was the Predator, found as a boss in Stealthy Stronghold.

Live Event / Finale

Zero Crisis Finale. Instead of a live multiplayer event, the season concluded on March 16, 2021, with a massive solo playable cinematic experience. Players fought alongside Agent Jones and The Foundation (leader of The Seven) to seal the exploding Zero Point inside a colossal stone Spire.
