Aliens and Sci-Fi
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7, titled "Invasion," launched on June 8, 2021. The season saw the island violently attacked by an extraterrestrial faction known as The Last Reality. A colossal Mothership ominously hovered over the entire map, prompting the Imagined Order (IO), led by Doctor Slone, to emerge from their underground bases and militarize the island to fight back. This season dramatically shifted the gameplay focus to aerial combat and high-tech weaponry. Players could pilot flying Saucers (UFOs) to shoot energy blasts or abduct enemies and vehicles with tractor beams. The IO introduced powerful tech like Rail Guns that could shoot directly through walls. Epic Games also completely overhauled the progression system, replacing the linear Battle Pass with the "Battle Star" system, giving players the freedom to choose the order in which they unlocked rewards across multiple pages. A major cultural highlight of the season was the "Rift Tour," a multi-day live interactive musical journey featuring Ariana Grande. The narrative concluded with the explosive "Operation: Sky Fire" event, where players infiltrated the Mothership, were betrayed by Doctor Slone, and destroyed the vessel—unwittingly sending thousands of mysterious purple Cubes crashing down onto the island.

The Spire from Season 6 was obliterated, leaving behind a purple crater called The Aftermath. Seven IO Satellite Stations heavily guarded by AI were constructed across the map. Holly Hedges was taken over by aliens and renamed Holly Hatchery, enclosed in low-gravity biomes. Later in the season, the Mothership actively abducted entire POIs, leaving massive low-gravity craters at Slurpy Swamp, Coral Castle, and Corny Complex.

Gameplay & Mechanics
Drivable Saucers (UFOs) provided massive aerial mobility and offensive capabilities. Alien Parasites could attach to players' heads, draining their health to 60 but providing permanent low-gravity jumps and increased movement speed. Players could also be abducted into the Mothership to participate in a low-gravity vault mini-game for high-tier loot. Payphones were introduced to accept quests.

The loot pool featured advanced sci-fi weaponry. The IO provided the Pulse Rifle, Recon Scanner (which shot a ping to reveal enemies), and the Rail Gun. The Aliens brought the Kymera Ray Gun, Grab-itron (gravity gun), and Plasma Cannon. The Inflate-A-Bull (a cow-shaped bouncy mobility item) and Prop-ifiers were also added.
Season rewards
Battle Pass
The Battle Pass introduced the non-linear Battle Star system. It featured Kymera (a highly customizable alien that required players to collect Alien Artifacts around the map), Sunny, Guggimon, Joey (an alien disguised as a human), Zyg, Doctor Slone, and Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty (Tier 100). The secret unlockable skin was DC's Superman.

The final act
Live Event / Finale
Operation: Sky Fire. On September 12, 2021, players boarded the Mothership to arm bombs under Doctor Slone's command. Upon discovering thousands of dormant "Kevin" Cubes powering the ship, Slone betrayed the players and left them to die. The bombs detonated, destroying the Mothership and sending the Cubes crashing down to the island.
