Season overview

Chrome and Consumption

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4, titled "Paradise," launched on September 18, 2022. Despite the name, the season focused on a terrifying liquid metal substance known as "Chrome" that rapidly consumed the island, its inhabitants, and its architecture. The season was commanded by The Herald, a mysterious antagonist who seeded the Chrome from her stronghold. In response to the spreading corruption, the island's inhabitants desperately tried to save their homes by attaching giant balloons to Points of Interest to float them safely above the ground. The season profoundly altered combat and movement with Chrome Splashes, which allowed players to turn themselves into fast-moving liquid blobs that were immune to fire and could phase directly through walls. The narrative culminated abruptly in the "Fracture" live event. The Herald succeeded in destroying the Reality Tree, causing the entire island to destabilize and shatter in a massive cosmic explosion. The Paradigm (revealed to be Brie Larson) used Zero Point energy to pull fragments from different realities together to forge a completely new island, prematurely ending Chapter 3 after only four seasons.

Landmarks, locations and changes that shaped this season.

Herald's Sanctum (a massive chrome castle) replaced Sanctuary. Many POIs were lifted into the sky on balloons to escape the Chrome, including Cloudy Condos (formerly Condo Canyon). Shimmering Shrine replaced Shuffled Shrines. The Driftwood pirate ship and Flare blimp actively moved around the map to different locations throughout the season.

Gameplay & Mechanics

Chrome Splashes allowed players to phase through player-built or pre-existing walls, and to "blobify" to sprint faster and air-dash. D-Launchers provided directional jump boosts. Holo-Chests were scattered across the map, requiring players to find Keys to open them for guaranteed high-tier loot.

EvoChrome Weapons (EvoChrome Shotgun and EvoChrome Burst Rifle) were introduced; dealing damage with these weapons actively upgraded their rarity. Other major additions included the Cobra DMR and the highly destructive Explosive Goo Gun.

Battle Pass

The 100-tier Battle Pass featured The Paradigm (Tier 1, Reality-659), Bytes, Grriz (a small bear operating a larger bear mech), Meow Skulls (Meowscles' emo sister), Lennox Rose, Twyn, and Marvel's Spider-Gwen (Tier 100). The secret unlockable skin was the season's antagonist, The Herald.

Fracture Event (Chapter 3 Finale). On December 3, 2022, The Herald successfully consumed the Reality Tree, causing the entire island to violently explode into fragments in space. Players completed mini-games across the floating debris to help The Paradigm collect Zero Point energy and forge the new Chapter 4 island.
