Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1, titled 'Drop In,' launched on October 15, 2019, immediately following the historic two-day Black Hole blackout. It served as a massive reset for the game, introducing the brand new 'Apollo' island map and fundamentally overhauling core mechanics with a heavy emphasis on water gameplay. Epic Games focused on a 'More Fun, Less Grind' philosophy, completely revamping the progression system with a new XP bar, punchcards, and the removal of traditional Battle Stars. To help onboard new players, skill-based matchmaking and AI bots were permanently integrated into standard public matches for the first time. Due to multiple significant delays extending its runtime into February 2020, this season holds the record as the longest in Fortnite history at 128 days.
