Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2, titled "Myths & Mortals," launched on March 8, 2024. Following the opening of Pandora's Box at the end of Season 1, the gods of Greek mythology descended upon the Helios island. Zeus, Hades, Ares, and Cerberus established massive new domains and challenged players to battle. This season dramatically shifted the gameplay meta by introducing powerful god-themed Mythic items. Players could rain down lightning with the Thunderbolt of Zeus, fly across the map with the Wings of Icarus, or drag enemies close with the Chains of Hades. The Medallion system was completely reworked: instead of passive shield regeneration, defeating a god and claiming their Medallion now granted unique gameplay buffs, such as Siphon on eliminations (Hades), increased weapon damage (Ares), or the ability to sprint faster and jump higher (Zeus). The season also featured a massive collaboration with Avatar: The Last Airbender, introducing elemental bending mythics. The Waterbending mythic, in particular, became one of the most dominant and controversial weapons in the game's history. The narrative concluded with Zeus aggressively attacking the island, culminating in a mini-event where a colossal sandstorm rolled in from the southern ocean, bringing the chaotic Wasteland for Season 3.
